Why a watch tuner

Standalone

Most watch tuners are companions to a phone app. This one runs on the watch by itself, so your phone can stay in your case.

Readable at a glance

One big note name and a needle arc. Nothing else competes for the tiny screen.

Color tells you

Flat  In tune  Sharp

One tap from the face

Add the Tuner complication to any watch face and it opens the tuner instantly.

Works with any instrument

Questions

Does it need an iPhone?

No. It's a standalone Apple Watch app (watchOS 10 or later). Install it from the App Store on your watch and it runs entirely there.

What instruments does it tune?

Anything that plays a steady pitch. It's chromatic, so it shows whatever note you play.

How accurate is it?

In testing it reads within a few cents from a 5-string bass's low B (31 Hz) to the top of a guitar neck. The needle turns green within 5 cents of the note.

Can I change the reference pitch?

Yes. Tap the gear to set A anywhere from 430 to 450 Hz (440 is the default) and to choose sharps or flats. That's all the settings there are.

Does it record me?

No. The microphone is used only to hear pitch. Sound is analyzed on the watch and never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. See the privacy policy.

Why does the screen dim while I play?

Apple doesn't let apps control watch brightness. To keep it bright longer, go to Settings › Display & Brightness › Wake Duration and choose "Wake for 70 Seconds," and in Settings › General › Return to Clock, set Tuner to return to the app.
